An immensely successful worldwide retail outlet, enabled by technology changes in information technology, Amazon is stretched to the limit over Christmas. Help will magically appear - 100,000 temp workers get all that stuff delivered. Digitized global systems like Amazon remind us that "flex force" is the popular answer to both technical and hands-on staffing for rapidly emerging business models. Temps have fewer/no labor protections, often severe performance expectations, no security, and no benefits. "Flex Force" may become a permanent work-around that deserves serious attention by educators, trainers, economists, and all who work for stable and prosperous families and communities.
